About Bloomberg Space
Bloomberg SPACE is not a conventional corporate art collection, but rather a dynamic space, where artists and audiences can explore new ideas and relationships in an innovative way. In May 2002, Bloomberg L.P. opened its own gallery called Bloomberg SPACE dedicated to commissioning and exhibiting contemporary art within its European headquarters in London. The programme complements Bloomberg’s existing program of innovative arts sponsorship and further extends the company’s support of a wide range of arts and charity projects throughout Europe and the world.
Open to employees, clients and the community at large, the space has collaborated with over 470 artists and commissioned over 120 new works of art since 2002. Bringing together our two philanthropic passions of commissioning new works and supporting the programmes of cultural institutions globally Bloomberg SPACE puts collaboration at its center to provide new opportunities for artists, curators and institutions.
Through our philanthropy programme, we help charities and non-profit organisations around the world with education and literacy programmes, health and medical research, social work, arts and culture, public parks and the environment.
In addition to the Bloomberg SPACE programme we commission artists to make works within the office for employees to enjoy. Within the central Atrium of the building we have commissioned Tobias Rehberger to create an installation in the atrium area which responds directly to the physical and operational environment of Bloomberg and its offices. The central piece, NEST hangs in the atrium of the building and hosts 888 spheres that light up in response to the number of people logged in to the computer network at any one time. Working directly with the in house R&D team to develop the system, Rehberger’s work embraces and reflects the technology at the heart of Bloomberg’s business 24 hours a day.
